Get Better or Get Worse, Stay the Same, No Way

Life consists of what we experience every day.

Sporting life created by a series of training and competitions we've been gone through. No matter what competitors (weaker or stronger) that we may compete with next time, win or lose, we, as a team, should ask ourselves whether we could perform better than our last match. Athlete's frame of reference/success criteria/performance indicators, i.e., breaking previous record (self's or other's), are clear. As an athlete/a team, we can only get better, or, get worse. We can never satisfy with staying the same 'state'. Some of our counterparts /competitors outperform us. We always compare with others as well as compete to ourselves in order to ensure our continuous improvement. These are what coach should be doing. Why not, the same, also, as a leader works for an organization.

The above reflection was inspired by a 5-min episode, seen late at night, of some CEO's sharing of his views on leading an organization.

"You can never forget why you are in this career!" a local film music composer who got an international award for his music. A musician who enjoys making music without thinking whether it will be awarded or not. Because he knows he's been doing is what he might be good at, at least, after a series of 'in' and 'out' of different jobs. Also, he finds his passion in doing his career, coupled with a strong belief in making a success in some day. But most important of all, what he's been doing are just something that should be done, bit by bit, towards an ultimate goal, of course, not about get any awards (though this may be important for some), but enjoyment of doing a career that we have free will to choose (from several different jobs that one has experienced before).

The above reflection was inspired by an interview of a podcast, HK.300, seen occasionally on MTR, of a local musician.

These two "stories" came to my life in the start of the Year of the Pig. Helped me to re-locate my position in my teaching career and re-ignite my passion as a coach for my team.

We can make a difference, continuous improvement & sustainable development, only if we work as a team with shared vision, common beliefs and concerted efforts.

Kung Hei Fat Choi!
